I was wondering if any of you other Hunter 28 owners might have an original manual that came with the boat. If you do does it have any information on adjusting the chain plate tie rods down in the cabin. I would appreciate any help from anyone.

Not in my manual

I looked through all the paperwork that came with my 1992 H28 (including the Owner's Manual) and could not find any information about adjusting the chain plates inside the cabin. I recommend contacting Hunter Marine Customer Service (either by phone or email). They have been very responsive and helpful every time I have contacted them. BTW, why do you need to adjust them anyway? Good luck.

chain plate tie rod

I need to adjust them because if I grab the stabord tie rod it can be moved at the low end. It can be slide a little, nad I don't think it should moce at all.

Tie rod adjustment

I would suspect that if your tie rods are loose your standing rigging is not set correctly. If you turn the tie rod to tighten it you'll probably develop a hole in the deck. Setting the standing rigging isn't difficult and can be done in less than an hour. There is a simple tool for testing the tension of the wires at West Marine (sorry, not sellin g anything) and I think the name is Loos. Once you have the wires set correctly you should check your chain plate because you probably have a water leak that needs sealing. Hope this helps. Michael msosborn@msn.com

Thanks Mike

Thanks for your input Mike. The rig is down right now for the winter and the tie rod end moves when tugged on. Take a close look at yours next time you are at your boat. Tell me what it looks and or feels like.

Tie rods

I leave the rig up during the winter. the rod remain snug. Doesn't tell much tho because the cold tends to shrink the wires. During the spring and at launch when things have warmed up I generally recheck all of the standing rigging and go up the mast looking for problems. I wouldn't be to concerned about the movement in the rods until the rig is up. Watch out for water leaks tho... Water inside is never a good thing, especially in the winter when it freezes and expands. Causes a lot of hidden damage. Fair Winds,

Manual

If you need a copy of the manual send me your address and I'll email a copy to you as soon as I can. I think there also may be a copy at the Yahoo Group 'twentyeightfive'. Not sure will get back to you about that. Also another source for info is at the www.practical-sailor.com site in the technical issues area. Fair Winds
