Help I am a new to me Hunter 28.5 owner and love the boat so far. My problem is the Jib Sheets get hung up on the chain plates where the 3 side stays attach. I have adjusted the guide forward and backwards and still have the issue. I DO NOT have turnbuckle covers andand I don't think they would help since the sheets get caught under the chain plate?
The only solution I can come up with is to use duct tape to cover the chain plates but I am hesitant since that would look a bit hookie?
Any ideas?

If you aren't using a roller Furler. I would raise the Jib about 6-12" if you have room. If not you my need to send to the sail shop.

What are they getting hung up on? Cotter pins? If so replace them with split rings.

My 28.5 does have the covers installed and the jib sheets do sometimes get under them and lift them up but never get hung up on anything.

Great sailing boat!

Good luck!

Sounds like you may not be tacking correctly. After you start your tack you need to hold the working sheet till after the bow passes head to wind. This allows the wind to help make the tack instead of using all rudder. As you release the working sheet the breeze will push the sail across the foredeck and allow the clew to clear the shrouds. Also using a small set of J locks to attach your sheets will minimize the possibility of the sheets getting hung up.

I was out sailing my H28.5 yesterday in 12-18 kt winds. My leeward or working headsail sheet was no where near the base of the shrouds while the lazy windward sheet did lie on the deck near the shroud base on that side of the boat. How far forward are your jib sheet cars? Mine were about a foot forward of the sheet winch. I do have a somewhat high cut genoa. Is your headsail a deck sweeper? In the end, I think Allan (as usual) has it right: when tacking, don't let the leeward sheet go until the wind has passed over the center line of the boat and then bring in the new sheet smartly on the other side.
