Well regardless, you are limited to hull speed so around 6-7 kts.

Gregory is right of course. A displacement boat only exceeds "hull speed" going downhill. The 2QM15 is a great engine, I had the 2QM20 in my 18000# 37-cutter. Like mine your boat will be slightly underpowered. With the right prop and in light conditions it is very adequate. The QM has a lot of torque and can handle a good 3-blade prop which helps. It makes its horsepower at lower rpms than newer engines, probably top speed under 2800. In a blow and three foot seas you will wish you had more power.

More Power ?????????? The Other Ones I Saw Had Only 8 Hp.
My 1977 H27 had a Yanmar 8HP (SB8) and it was plenty of power. Hull speed on these boats is just a bit over 6 knots, so you aren't going to be pulling any water skiers.. even with a 15HP engine :D

Cheers,

I have a 1981 Hunter 27' and found that hull speed is 6.2 knots. I also found that it requires 12hp to reach hull speed. I now have a 15 hp and it allows me to do hull speed without full throttle even with a headwind. This is great for running back to the dock in advance of weather.

15 hp is more than plenty for the 27, you should reach hull speed easily with lots of power to spare. No point in trying to go any faster, just waisting fuel trying to ride over the bow wave. I make do with a 10 hp outboard but it's almost useless once the waves approach 3 feet.
