We tie ours on the boom

The jiffy reefing line comes out the aft end of the boom. It goes up to the reef point, then down to the boom on the other side of the sail. We tie it around the boom with the tightest bowline we can manage. Actually, we have two lines, one for each of two reef points. But they are both attached in the same way. Of course, the higher, second reef attached farther forward on the boom. David Lady Lillie

Depends.

If your mainsail is loose-footed as mine is then you can do as David suggests. When I bought my H37C with the original sail the reef lines were tied off on a bale. There is a bale at the aft end of my boom because my traveler is in the cockpit.

Tied on the boom with an attached foot

before we bought the new, loose-footed main, Ed. There is plenty of room between the slides. The key is to bring the reef point right down to the boom under it, and to pull the reef point (your new clew) toward the end of the boom. David Lady Lillie
