135 for racing, asymetric for cruising
The 135 is for going to windward in light air - mostly a racing tactic, since cruisers will typically motor into a light wind. But the h27 does not point particularly well, especially our shoal draft model. An asymetric is as good or better than the 135 at 60 degrees off the true wind. With the wind any farther aft, and the asymetric definitely outperforms the 135.Since we are cruisers, we have a Doyle asymetric on our '77 h27. Another big advantage of the asymetric and our furling 110 is that we can shift from light air to heavy weather sails by just dropping the sock on the spinnaker, and unfurling the 110.DavidLady Lillie
