How much is a 1971 H 27 worth in general? It has extensive blistering, and I'm curious about this as a project boat, so I'm also wondering how inexpensively I could repair the hull. Thanks, Faith

Faith, In a posting on this site is the outcome

of a Hunter owner that bought such a boat. (I think it is the exact same model) This posting is probably 48 to 72 hours old. He too had extensive blistering and the boat was a total loss. Impossible to repair. If the boat was free it still is to expensive to repair. Also, if the hull has been allowed to degrade to this state then it is very possible that all other systems and structures are also in this poor state. Run away, run very, very fast. Ray S/V Speedy

Faith, The boat you're referring to (Cathy B's boat) is actually a '77, not a '71. She mis-typed the year in the e-mail to the Lightning Fleet. Normal prices for boats of that era are around $9,000 (see www.bucvalue.com). We bought this one for $4,300. I wouldn't say it's a total loss, it's just a very expensive proposition to fix it up. The hull MUST be repaired before she can sail again. The yard wants $6,300. A do-it-yourselfer with a lot of time on her hands could do it for maybe $1,500-$2,000 worth of materials (fiberglass, resin, epoxy, paint, sandpaper, rollers, brushes, respirator, etc., etc.,) Cathy and I simply don't have the kind of time it takes to do it ourselves, and there are other problem areas on the boat too that would have to be dealt with eventually. That's why the scrap-it or give-it-away mentality.
