Ok. Need some measurements. I have a 1979 27 with a tiller.

What width bimini is ideal?

Since SBO is a combined site of the most popular boats, you might just find a bimini for your H27 in the SBO store. Did you try looking there?

You'll have to measure from just inside the toerail on one side to the other.

I'm doing a bimini later this season and plan on installing aluminim U-plates/U-channel as mounts just inside of the toe rails on either side. I'll mount the tubular aluminum frame to these with pins or bolts. I don't think there's any specific measurement for this as it depends on where you place your mounts. It's more of a custom job.

PS I had thought of using the toerail itself as a mounting point for the bimini frame. I figured I could make a 'sandwich' of aluminum plate-toerail-aluminum plate and just drill holes in the plate and align them with the existing holes in the toerail. A bolt or pin could then pass through here as the mount for the base of the bimini frame. My brother has a nice folding top on his pontoon boat I'm using as a model for my own bimini. It's just a tubular aluminum frame that folds and locks with a sunbrella fabric top. It shouldn't be too difficult to mimic.

Yes, I am tempted to get a universal fit one from west marine. (According to my measurements). Only I (most of us) have a split back stay which I have to stitch velcro pockets into. This is leading me to believe that I should have a canvas worker do it or something. Just kinda spendy. I'd love a dodger over a bimini but that would be way too expensive, also I'm worried about the main sheet configuration with my mid-boom sheeting on the 1980 H27.
I was actually thinking of mounting it on the stern pulpit. Only I fear it will make the pulpit weak in a blow even with the bimini furled up.

I have a 1981 Hunter 27 with Bimini mounted on one round aluminum tube mount attached to each side of chrome stern bottom rail about 8" from the front of the pulpit. I just bought boat in the winter. I suspect the three leaf frame stays up by lines attached somewhere? I can give you measurements of the cover however it seems to me you'd need to size cover by whatever frame you purchase or fabricate.
