If the boat fits
We have an 82 and, as with any boat, there are pros and cons Although it says 75-84 there are differences between, and perhaps within, model years. I believe the 80's had Renault engines. I talked to the previous owner of an 80 and he said the Renault performed well. This has been echoed by inhabitants of this forum. This partucular boat became a training boat and for good reason. This model is very good for new sailors. It forgives mistakes, something I can swear to, and it seems solid when you get into seas where you rather not be. The bad parts. If it ain't right for you, stay away. It is a good weekend boat and would probably go for a week (something my wife and I will try in September). Yet, this is an individual judgment, It is perhaps too small for you. It is 20 years plus old. Get a survey, of course, but also look at details (the surveyor may not), right down to the fittings of the faucets and the water hoses. Does it have ball valves or gate valves on the trough hulls? Has so much been added the wiring is a nightmare? How is the condition of the standing and running rigging (price 100 feet of any type of line). Is the head in good shape? There are hundred things that can cost you money. Get a supply catalog to see. A couple hundred here an couple hundred there and soon, real money. Can you do the work yourself. All this aside, do you really like the boat? If the structure is sound most everything else can be fixed. You must like it, as it may be a long term relationship.Andys/v Baroque
