Sam, To raise your mast with a furling jib you
use the jib halyard to attach to the gin pole(cleat the jib halyard very securly on the mast) and then the main sheet block and tackle assembly to attach from the gin pole to the u-bolt in the anchor locker. The gin pole should have a 10 to 15 degree angle leaning toward the top of the mast. The furling unit is probably a CDI unit that is hooked to the mast with its own stainles steel internal stay and becomes the forestay. You really need to read a copy of the Hunter owners manual before doing this operation. The manual should explain if your boat has temporary mast raising shrouds or the builtin type on the later model 260. The mast raising I spoke of was for my H26 and the 260 is the same in many cases, somewhat different in others. You need to know what your boat fits. If you were to drop the mast it would be quite expensive. Also if you bend the shroud toggle bolts you will get to open the wallet. There are archives on this site that address mast tension on the 260 and it would be good for you to read these articules and check your mast tensions.Fair windsRayS/V Speedy
