That's actually the perfect application for the LOCK. ;^)
I had a lock on it as it had an eye on the motor to attach it but it interfered with the mount lowering lever. Somehow, the Admiral, managed to break the eye off the motor in the process of raising the motor.
In that respect women make the best product testers. Take our rudder. When it is locked down part of it goes forward under the stern of the boat. That is what keeps it from coming off the pintles. You should not be able to get it off the boat without releasing the rudder blade hold down line and allowing the blade to pivot up clear of the hull, then raise it up off he pintles. Well, the Admiral, bless her heart, trying to be helpful, managed to wrestle the rudder off the pins with the blade still locked down. When I found the rudder with the blade still locked I had to ask how she got it off with it still locked down? She said it was a real bear to get off and could not understand how I made it look so easy. After I touched up the scratches and the bottom paint she agreed to let me handle the rudder from now on LOL!
As far as theft goes, I was referring to the motor, not the furler. That would be a good one to see, someone stealing a furler off an stepped mast. Probably happened before though.
