Today I overhauled the whole keel mast post mechanism on my 260.I had a leak into the boat from the water outside (salt)so went for the resealing of the mast post base initially. The uphaul line was almost through in two places ,very glad i decided to tackle the job at the beginning of the season. There is an excellent article posted by Pat Adam but I found on my boat the base plate is held down by the keel mechanism holding bolt and a nut underneath in the keel housing fitted to a tube welded to the baseplate it is therefore not possible to renew the sealer on the baseplate without removing the keel as a whole. The worst job was actually removing the screws from the mast base through the post cap and into the aluminium plate let into the fibreglass s/s and aly not very good partners after a period of 9 years,I now have bolts in rather than screws. The whole job is now completed but involved the use of the marina hoist for a lift and hold and it took about 3hours to complete including some antifouling applied to places I am unable to reach witout the ability to lower the keel on dry land. Hope this post will be of assistance to anyone wishing to tackle the task please ask any questions and i will reply gladly David Holmes Hunter 260 Dixie
