Mast raising at the dock

We tried raising the mast on the trailer initially. This was unsuccesful. We found that it is easiest to raise the mast at the dock. We hook the main sheet attachment at the stainless eye at the front of the bow. This works much better than the eyebolt in the anchor locker. One person starts lifting the mast while the other pulls on the main sheet. The mast goes up easily.

Well I Finally Jumped In

Well I got mine. I had the guy I bought it from walk me through the process. We had it mostly setup in about an hour and that was with him showing me how everything goes together. It's not so much different from the Flying Scott I used to just bigger and heaver.

I use the bow pulpit

I got tired of tugging on the main sheet while my wife pushes up on the mast so I built a large removable block using a 6x2 inch trailer jack caster wheel for the bow pulpit. Then I use the strap from my trailer winch instead of the main sheet to attach to the gin-pole. I use high gear on the trailer winch. Low gear is so easy I've even though of using a portable drill. We can rig or de-rig in 35 minutes if we allow ourselves 45 minutes. If we try to do it in 35 minutes at takes 45 minutes because we forget something. We remove our shrouds and spreaders and curl them up in a comparmentalized bag rather than use bungies. -Nils Anderson "Godspeed"

Raising H260 Mast

Brigg : A couple of questions. I don't have much trouble getting the mast up but always looking for easier way. Not sure what you mean by the following. You said: "I put a block on the bow pulpit so I can run the tail of the main sheet, back through the friction cleat, to the starboard winch." My mainsheet is long enough to reach the winch if I want to use it for assistance but never have. What do you mean by "block on the bow pulpit"? You said: "My biggest problem is just remembering to attach the roller ferling jib before raising the mast." Dont' understand. I always keep the furler attached to the mast when traveling using bungies. Attaching the furler is the hardest part. It's just a few inches short. I use the boom vang to stretch the furler enough to pin. George

First time, Average, fast...

First time: allow 1.5 to 2 hours Average: 1 hour Fast (experienced and well Organized): 40 minutes. On or off the trailer doesn't matter too much, except, if you drop something, its a lot easier to find it on the ground. Also, if you are in tight quarters , motoring around with the mast hanging 12 feet aft might add to the challenge, not to mention all the lines and cables you have underfoot (and over head).
