Hunter 26 Outboard

Hunter 26 Kingston
First question is simple, I'm looking to replace my outboard and am questioning if I really need the long shaft. Is the Long shaft on the Hunter 26 a nice to have or a must have?

Second question may be simple as well. My current outboard is offset because the transom plate is not square to the stern of the boat. Should I put a spacer on the plate to square the transom off to the boat? or should I offset the motor again?

Thanks

Ben

I've only had my H26 for one season...and it came with a Honda 9.9 standard pull start... and I did not get to sail as much as I would have liked this season (did sail yesterday though :) so I don't have a lot of experiences yet to share.... but... When I'm on a starboard tack, my motor comes out of the water. Not usually a problem because if I have enough wind to be on a decent starboard tack, I'm lifting the motor anyway. But I suspect that if I ever get into serious swells, I'll have problems.... About 5 positions down on my wish list is a long shaft, electric start with electric tilt.... but for now I'm okay with what I have.
