Bought a Hunter 26 last year and it has a three piece hatch, kinda awkward to open and close. Has anyone done a conversion to a one piece hatch or hinged door assembly on their sailboat? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
It is about stowing it while underway. The three piece fits into a nice bag and can be put in the starboard cockpit locker. A single piece will be this awkward chuck of stuff that gets in the way.... all the time.
Where indeed?
Dock Box?
Garage?
Transom with Sugru hooks?
On boarding ladder with wire ties or velcro?
On top of water tank?
On top of or below unused berth cushion?
Next to head?
Hanging locker?
Under V berth inset?
Behind or next to main hatch ladder?
Get a bigger boat?
Actually the questions was about the hatch design and possible replacements, think I can figure out where to stow it during operation. Apparently Hunter decided it wasn't the best either, as they changed it when they went to the 260. Dave, thanks for your feedback, I will look into this possibility.
I cut a piece of nice plywood the size of the opening and put a 12 x12 louver vent in the center. Plywood, kinda cheap I suppose, you could go with veneer and such, but the cabin is always super fresh and it never leaks and it stows a number of places depending on your needs. Been 10 years and still good.
