Hunter 26.5

I'm contemplating the idea of buying a 1987 Hunter 26.5... Is this boat capable of a crossing(under the right circumstances, weather, ect) to Bahamas and stay there for a year? My skills are good sailing, I just need honest feedback on the boat. Owners of such model are EXTREMELY encourage to drop their 2 cents in. Thx much as always.

Properly outfitted watching the wind yes May I suggest a good skipper who teaches go with you the first time. Long range weather is important

Crossing to the Bahamas from Florida in a cruising sailboat is all about waiting for a weather window! With decent winds/ weather, the 26.5 can certainly do the job.

I have a 26.5 and I can say that I wouldn't do a crossing on it but there again I'm a lake sailer. Not much experience in blue water. My concern would be the constant control of the tiller handle unless you had an autopilot.
