Just got the issue
I just received the small craft advisor with the review. The said a lot of good stuff about the new 25, all of which I agree with for my boat. The only things that might be perceived as negative in the review, were things like crouching standing room, size of enclosed head, and weight of boat and trailer for towing. Otherwise it was all very positive. They reported the boat to be priced at 34,000 with the options they got. Mine was just a bit higher with a few more options. One option that they did not review since they did not have it on the boat is the bimini. The bimini is awesome on this boat. It is made from 1 inch stainless tubing, with no straps so it is very sturdy. You can actually stand up and steer behing the wheel with plenty of headroom. It also has a clear window, although it could have been better placed in the top to see a windex. They also reported having two people present raising the mast. I have raised and lowered mine several times now by myself. It is very easy to do.

I contributed to the article. Here's an update. I have now found the leak and Hunter is covering the remedy under warranty. It transpires that the deck and hull mouldings were inadequately joined at the factory. The repairer is (quite inexpensively) filling the join with epoxy glue and bolting the join every six inches or so. This is predicted to be 100% effective. I've found that, when mooring the boat, the bow eye (ie the u-bolt to which the trailer hook attaches) should be the primary holding point. The bow roller should be used only for back up and when casting off. (Hunter have kindly replaced my bow roller under warranty as it was bent by the boat swinging on the mooring). Also, the rudder assembly should be modified so the rudder can be swung up clear of the water while the boat is moored. I'm having this looked at and will report further in due course. I remain very happy with my 2005 Hunter 25.

Garry, Thanks for the warning about the bow roller. I hadn't considered that it might bend. I agree that the rudder should kick up all the way. I think the 240's and 260's did. I was suprised to find the new 25 rudder did not. So far I have found no leaks in mine. Even with some pretty bad thunderstorms, my boat has stayed dry.

Hunter 25 (2005) Bow Roller and Rudder
I'm told (by the very good boat builder here who's doing the repairs) that the replacement bow roller can easily be reinforced and that the rudder head can be modified so that the rudder will swing up out of the water. This, and using the bow eye as the primary connection to the mooring rope, should solve the mooring problems I've had. It's surprising how loose the factory connection between deck and hull mouldings was. However, it looks as though it will be perfectly OK once the connection is re-glued and bolted. (The bolts won't show as they'll be covered on the outside by the rubber bumper strip). All's well that ends well!
