I'm considering buying a 1985 Hunter 25.5. It has an outboard motor. Has anyone any advice as to what to look out for? The boat is clean, shows well and is in the water. The bilge where the keel bolts are located is dry and relatively clean. Any and all feedback will be much appreciated.

H 25.5

I am an owner of a 25.5 and do like the boat. As with any boat, I would check the topsides very carefully for any signs of softness. Also find a means of looking over the bottom. H 25.5s are prone to blistering if left in the water in my area. I ended up putting a barrier coat on my boat and have had few problems since (mine stays in the water year around), but I believe blisters could get out of control on my boat if I had not put a good barrier coat on it and make it a habit to check closely and fix any blisters that appear whenever I can. I think you would enjoy an H 25.5. They have some goodies that seem to be missing on later models and are easily handled by a single person. I find the weaknesses in the model (every boat has some) to be minor and the boat to compare fairly well with others in that size class.

Thank you

Thanks for the reply and feedback. I expect to make an offer this week.

I like my 25.5

Check the motor mount and stern ladder mounting for any structural weakness/cracking in the fiberglass. You may have to add backing in this area. My boat is very much trouble-free...lots of fun and easy to handle.

Call Hunter Marine and ask for Gregg Emerson to get my Nuamber. Sounds like you may have found a good one and a little imput will help you. It may have been one of mine I sold orginally crazy Dave Condon
