I just purchased a 1985 Hunter 25.5 and need to lower the mast prior to having the yard lift and put on a trailer for me. I have read through most of the archive articles but do not have the mast "pole" or "bridle" that is mentioned in some of the articles. Can anyone email me pictures of these or of the whole process? Also...all of the running rigging needs to be replaced. One source wants to sell me 3/8"...another suggests 5/16". I actually thought the existing lines were 1/2"... any suggestions? Many thanks, Steve Aeropilot@charter.net

Mast Lowering Procedures

I can send you copies of the H260 Manual that give detailed descriptions for this procedure plus a diagram from the manual. Should give you an idea of how it's done. gkobernus(avoidspamputatsignhere)chartermi.net

Unstep

When I unstep my 84 25.5's mast I get four friends together to help me out. I don't have a bridle or pole either. First I strip the it down to just the mast, upper shrouds, backstay and forestay. Tie a line to the forestay turn buckle to help "walk" the mast down. Before you lower the mast walk the area between the mast and the aft pulpit to make sure there is nothing that you will trip on while you are "walking" the mast down. First remove the forward pin on the mast step. Then remove the ring clips from the forestay and shrouds, and loosen. This is were you need your friends to help keep the mast steady while you are disconnecting the forestay. Place one helper on the line tending the forestay to keep it tight. While you are stationed at the mast have the remaining helpers disconnect the shrouds. Then just lower the mast by "walking it down towards the aft pulpit. Once it is resting on the pulpit you can then remove the last pin in the mast step. Then you and your helpers can then move the bottom of the mast to the forward pulpit where it will fit very nicely.

Running rigging

Halyards and sheets are 3/8 except for jib sheets which are 7/16. IIRC OEM is XLS.
