Hunter 25.5 cabin pop-top

Ahoy all. I am trying to find a link to the arrangement of the lines which attach to, lift and secure my pop top on 1985 Hunter 25.5. There was nothing on it when I purchased it back in January. Pictures, PDF anything would help. Thanks in advance. Carl W

There are no lines to lift the pop top. You just push it up from below. There is a small hook on the mast that the pop top anchors to when up.

Okay thanks. And you know this because? Here is the only reason I am raising this question. One of the club members who knew the boat and two of the previous owners told me there was a rig which hooked to each of these eyes, terminating into one and went to a ring or pulley on the mast or boom. But his memory is not clear about it any longer. It has been sitting here in the slip where I purchased it from the heir of the previous owner who passed. I went over and looked at another 25.5 which appears to be the same as mine, and although it has a pop top, however it has no eyes like mine.

Here you can see the four eyes I am speaking of. Two fore and two aft.

I have a 25.5. No eyes as in your picture. Must be add-on by PO who didn't trust factory system or other purpose. Personally never use the pop top as I believe they are an invitation for leaks.

I agree with you 100%. So I have heard the same thing from two sailors in this forum and that is good enough for me. I spent two days last month repairing leaks and chips, mainly in two of the four teak strips which are pretty much useless for anything except brightwork. The screws were all leaking which cover the companionway slide. I replaced those with mahogany. Even the other hand rails' fastener holes were wallowed out, which are really not so much functional as they are trim, in my humble opinion. Although, I like the extra foot of headroom in the main berth, the potential for leaks is greater with continuing to use it. There are many stress cracks around already and I do not want to make it worse. So,thanks for the feedback.

Would be easy to rig a pulley off the boom to lift the top up so you could secure it to the mast. Would allow you to easily, gently lower it so as to not crack the leading edges. I really enjoy the extra head room--make the boat livable.

Thought you might find this guy's modifications interesting. I am giving serious thoughts to it (but this will be my first year with the 25.5) making the poptop a permanent or semi-permanent tall-boy cabin.

I had a 25.5. No eyes. That must be something the PO added.

I have no eyes either. There is a small plate at base of mast where a hook was to go. I think the pad eye the other poster is referring to is for the addition of cunnigham if you want it.

Go to help desk and ask your question how the slider hatch is held fast to the mast in the upright position. You will get a direct response from a former Hunter employee
