I agree with you 100%. So I have heard the same thing from two sailors in this forum and that is good enough for me. I spent two days last month repairing leaks and chips, mainly in two of the four teak strips which are pretty much useless for anything except brightwork. The screws were all leaking which cover the companionway slide. I replaced those with mahogany. Even the other hand rails' fastener holes were wallowed out, which are really not so much functional as they are trim, in my humble opinion. Although, I like the extra foot of headroom in the main berth, the potential for leaks is greater with continuing to use it. There are many stress cracks around already and I do not want to make it worse. So,thanks for the feedback.
