Hunter 240 Stern pass through gate options

Has anyone developed a gate for the stern walk through on the 240?

We just bought a used 2000 Hunter 240 end of last season and want to have some way to keep that pass through safe/blocked when on the water for our kids.

There should be a wire between the rails that unhooks from the port sternrail to the mid transom rail if memory serves me. Photo please.

I have not done that, but can understand your concern. My 240 has the lifeline that Dave mentions above, connecting the two stern rails. That is pretty high though, and would not keep a kid on board. I would install a length of lifeline netting on that stern lifeline, and hang it down to the floor, and secure with hooks at the bottom corners and maybe in-between.

When our kids were small they had to wear a harness that was tethered to a parent. When they got bigger they had to wear life jackets when in the cockpit, on deck or on the dock. They also had swimming lessons starting before they were two. One seemed to fall in fairly often to be hauled out immediately by the strap on the life jacket.

We did put netting on the lifelines from cockpit to bow, but not anywhere aft of the companionway.

We have the high lifeline I believe but was hoping there was some sort of gate that others had used to keep the open area less open. Our kids are always in life jackets but I’d rather them not be able fall out that easy

Adding a second line is easy but good response here and by the way to all, thank you for responding
There is no gate I know of and if there was it would be expensive. Also it may be a hindrance in case of emergency

I'm not sure if it will fit, but if you could find one from a Hunter 26 or 260. It also doubles as a swim ladder.

I glued two plastic hooks to the bottom off the aft pass through above the swim steps.
Then added lifeline webbing to the lifeline .
Stopped my dog jumping off.
