Hi folks, I just launched my new to me 2000 h240 and I don’t know how to keep the rudder from floating up. I have the stainless pin that keeps the rudder lifted for transport and I assumed that the same pin or the sheer pin would simply be inserted in the same spot once the rudder was rotated down, but that doesn’t seem to work. Once pushed down, there doesn’t seem to be a hole through the rudder for the nylon sheer pin or the stainless pin. What gives? What am I missing?

Typically I push it down with my right foot with some momentum and then pull the line to the stainless cleat. I don't use the pins as they are awkward to set. The rope holds just fine provided you have cleated it correctly.

I don’t have a place for the pin on my 240 either, and I’ve always wondered about that. I just cleat the line and it stays fully submerged without problems.

If you are towing with the rudder up, i strongly recommend tying the rudder itself in the up position to the port side stern rail seats bracket. Learned the hard way while delivering a h-26 where the rudder was sanded smooth by the road.

Yep! I use an extra dock line around the rudder and cleat it off. Makes a great back-up to the rudder line itself

I never use the pins either. just this tie down strap with rubber covered hooks on the ends. Use it when ever its on the trailer.
