Hunter 240/26/260/270 Rally in Sarasota, FL

Hi All,
I'm in the preliminary stages of planning a meetup of Hunter 26/260/270 boats in Sarasota, FL, likely hosted at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron.

I originally floated this idea with the Hunter 26/260/270 Facebook group and we have definite interest. Between there and the members already in Sarasota at the Squadron, I'm expecting 8-12 boats, possibly more. Dock space is available for sail in, or there is a pretty easy ramp for boats on trailers.

The event will be extremely casual. Expect a lot of show and tell from boat owners as well as an informal race and cookout type atmosphere.

Timing and details are very much TBD right now. I'm trying to gauge interest so we can put adequate plans in place. Tentative timing is late December.

We would like to attend, but would not hall our 26 from Colorado. It sounds fun even with the the boat left at its slip. Keep us informed

Absolutely! I’ve had a couple other sailors ask me this and we’ll definitely accommodate.

I spoke with the Sarasota Sailing Squadron manager this weekend and am now connecting with a board member in charge of events. Hoping to get a date locked in within the week. Will update as I know more!

Love it! Can’t help with #1 but I can bet there are a lot of sailors on these boats that could help with #2.

I have extended the invitation to Hunter 240s as well as the prior-mentioned 26/260/270. So far, we have over a dozen boats from around the US who have expressed interest, and I'm hoping for many more.

Hi! We had a great event!

We had multiple boats get covid and one with a trailer malfunction on the way in so it was a fairly small event with a boat from Louisiana and other attendees from around Florida.

That said, made some great new friends and the H26/260 owners on the Facebook group are already planning another event likely in Pensacola, Galveston or Kemah, TX over Spring Break. Join up there for more info as things evolve. The exciting thing is the owners are really coming together around these boats much in the way of having a true “Hunter Waterballast Association” and the community is quite strong.

My favorite part of the Sarasota event was escorting the Louisiana sailor out to the Gulf of Mexico as he had never been on salt water at all as a lake sailor. Pretty eye opening to break free from shore for the first time.

Because of the lean attendance we scrapped the race and focus on social time - namely spending lots of time sailing together on the same boat, sharing meals together, etc.

Looking forward to growing this event in future years and likely hosting this as an annual get together, as the Sarasota Sailing Squadron facilities proved ideal for this type of event.

Definitely! They were tremendously supportive of the event as they are trying to ramp up their activities for cruising boats. There seems to be interest again in another event this December.
