Does anyone have a preferred method for tuning a Kenyon mast rig? Specifically, do you adjust mast rake, pre-bend etc. with or without the boom attached? If you do it with the boom on, do you have the main bent on as well? Seems to me that having the boom & main on would affect the specified tuning dimensions in the manual, or not? In short, does it make any difference whether or not the boom/main, just the boom, or no boom when tuning? HELP, thanks!

Tuning.......

I adjusted the tension with the boom in place. I'm pleased with the result and have mild weather helm, just like I like it!

I'm pretty sure the procedure would be the same regardless of the mast manufacturer. Leave the boom on. It shouldn't matter whether the sails are up or down as long as they are not drawing. If you mark the luff of the main about halfway up with narrow strips of black sail tape spaced laterally at 1" intervals, you can precisely measure how much bend you have in the mast with a piece of light shockcord stretched from the masthead to the gooseneck. H23 mast tuning

I've always tuned our H23 mast with boom attached, but no sail, as it's easier to sight up the luff groove. I really like Peter's idea, though! Otherwise there's no way to tell exactly how much prebend is set. Thanks, Peter!
