I was inspecting some of my stays on my boat and I noticed that some of them have seen better days. In particular, the shrouds that go through the spreader seemed to have flattened out and are slightly kinked right around spreader itself. Perhaps this is normal, perhaps not. If I decided to replace them, the thing I cannot figure out is how to get them off the top part of the mast? They appear to be connected to some sort of ball-joint to the mast. Any ideas? Does Hunterowners.com have the dimensions of these stays cataloged? Bob

Upper spreader T-ball

On most H23 masts, the T-ball fittings are removed from the mast by simply rotating them 90 degrees in the slot. Of course, the mast has to be down. They come out so easily that it's hard to keep them in the slots when raising the mast. A little tension will keep them from rotating and falling out when raising the mast. As far as shroud lengths go, your best bet is to take the old shrouds to the rigger and have them make up the new ones to the same length. Good luck. Peter H23 "Raven"

If you are looking to replace the standing rigging, call Jean at Seco South in Clearwater/St. Pete, Florida. They have the deminsions and so forth as they made the rigging for the boat.

HELP ! Doesn't work *o

These things....they have a tear drop-like shape and they don't rotate. I thought about twisting the wire 90 degrees and pushing it in but that didn't do it. I got the wire 90 degrees to the mast and jiggled it around but to no avail. I tried the rest of these bizarre fittings on the mast but basically the same result. I'm pretty stumped, where's that crazy dave???? B

file the edges

Pick your teeth, cuss at em, spit on em and scream. Been there. I assume the t toggle ends are not fitting. They have to be turned at ninty degrees with one end going into the hole. If not, then file the edges.

EUREKA, the solution!

Crazy Dave I called the company you recommended the OEM of the mast & rigging for the Hunter23, located in Clearwater, FL. I spoke with a guy who told me that the teardrop fittings do pop out when turned 90 degrees. The only thing is, some of the masts might have these tear drop fittings riveted to the mast. He suggested that I drill out the rivets and the fittings will pop out. I took his advice and they came out no-problemo! He said that some of masts used rivets because some owners complained that the fittings and hence, the stays fell out during stepping of the mast. He said you can re-rivet or attach them if you choose. Pass this tidbit of info on to other Hunter 23 owners! thanks again Bob
