Hi! Our friend in Chicago just gave an 1985 Hunter 23 with a fixed keel. He said that we cannot trailer it. Is this true? We would prefer to bring it back to Seattle ourselves, since I suspect that having a company do it is expensive. Can you help?

Trailering a 23

Hi, Congratulations on your new boat! It's a super little sailboat, and you'll have lots of fun with it. You CAN trailer a H23- in fact, I believe it originally came with a trailer. Mine is currently on its factory-supplied trailer, which is still in good shape... Check around, you may find someone who is willing to part with their trailer (Perhaps you should post a 'wanted' ad in the 'Gear Here' portion of this site?). --Jon Bastien H23 '2 Sheets to the Wind' H25 'Adagio'

Sure You Can

As Jon posted, the h23 was meant to trailer. I am pretty sure you could have a VERY nice trailer built for less than it would cost to haul it to Seattle. Congratulations and Good Luck. You will find this website a wealth of information as you have questions about your boat. Ward

Maybe you can borrow or rent one?

If all you want to do is get the boat home and put it in the water, you might try borrowing (or renting) a suitable trailer jsut for the trip. Otherwise, you should be able to buy a decent trailer for a lot less than sending the boat by truck. MagicTilt trailers fit a wide varety of sailboats, including the H23. Good luck and happy sailing! H23 in Seattle

Congratulations on the H23. I have an H23 on the north end of Lake Washington in Kenmore. Unfortunately, I do not have a trailer, but would be glad to help you out if possible. You can contact me at phydough@msn.com Greg Hartgraves S/V Paradise

I have a 1985 hunter 23 that came with trailer

My boat came with a custom made trailer it has a fixed wing keel. I don't know if the 1985 hunter23 came with 2 style keels or not myin has a draft of 2'6" so if yours is the same then you can have a trailer made to fit it. I have a custom made magic tilt trailer that came with the boat. However if you get one made for it I would recomend a 2 axile trailer because mine only has one and it is extremely difficult to pull it more than 50 mph behind a car
