Can anyone tell me what purpose the Teak/Holly soleplate located below the vberth, next to the portapotty serves. It covers (screwed down) a very nicely finished gellcoat recess that appears to serve no purpose either. The only thing I can figure is that it serves as a runoff catch for the portapotty (YUK)! Help Please, this one is driving me nuts!

Teak & Holly plate?

I figured there was supposed to be one there, but it wasn't aboard my 23 when I bought it. It doesn't serve any purpose that I know of... I don't think it's for porta-potty run-off, as there is a lip between the porta-potty and the recess in the sole. It's not large enough for storage, and with the plate screwed down (There are holes in my cabinsole that indicate mine was screwed in too), it doesn't seem that the designer wanted you to get in there that often anyway. I think it was installed to make the V-berth in the boat look a little better. No other real purpose...

Your esthetic idea is the best I have heard so far. Thanks, Dan

YUK!

I bought my 23 early last spring. I got a great deal on it because the previous owner didn't believe in soap and maintainence. I figured I could clean up the hull stains and paint the bottom and I'd be in business. I was right for the most part. The boat looks/sails great but there was just one issue. It's seems that the previous owner wanted to leave the new owner a gift in the portapottie (which I was planning to throw away anyway). But worse than that, this cheap #$%^^ triied to patch a hole in the pottie reservoir with epoxy. Well, I figured out his patchwork didn't work while I was sailing(healing). I noticed a blue/green liquid running out from under the sole in the v-berth. I unscrewed the plate and found ..... you know the rest. So to answer your question about a run off catch for the portapottie, yes it works...YUK Steve Salt Shaker

another bilge

Correctimundo..........I think it serves as another bilge......mine had collected moisture trapped under the teak cover and I had to sand and revarnish it.
