I recently purchased a 1995 Hunter 23.5. The boat came without a motor. Does it require a long or short shaft outboard?
Thanks
Jerry

email me anytime to davecondon@mindspring.com I sold nearly 1/4 of the production line and introduced the boat for Hunter. Rick Webb is correct about the length of long shaft or 20 inch shaft. The other two are either too short or too long and will cause problems.

Too Long?

I have a 25" XLong Shaft on my 23.5 not sure I'd go back to a 20".

What problems should I watch out for that I have not experienced as yet?

Only downside I have seen is I must tilt it up when on the trailer or it may scrape on an incline no issues on level ground.

+Thanks Dave.......I'm in the process of purchasing a Yamaha 6 hp 20" shaft, just wasn't sure if that was the correct one.

DJpryour;

You are welcome sir.

Rick;

Just be cautious with that 25 inch particularly when putting the boat onto the trailer as the bottom portion of the skeg could probably hit the concrete. No matter what, always tilt the engine up when on the trailer and tie the motor up for safety and so it will not bounce up and down which is hard on the bracket and transom when bouncing.

Thanks Dave

I do not trailer often as the boat is normally in the water and the extra length does not dip into the water so we are good there also.

The extra length helps a lot when coming through the pass and the boat hobby horses popping the motor out of the water momentarily. Also nice to be able to motor sail on either tack though still to a lesser degree on a port tack.

I use a 4 stroke 6 hpYamaha on my 23.5 1995.Talk to dealer about putting a dual thrust prop on it.Makes backing out of slip and manuvering at slow speed a great deal better,Love my boat,good luck with yours.
