Can anyone tell me if parts are available from the manufacturer of the Hunter 23.5 boat trailer ? It is a 1993 model. My axle looks like the rust is holding it together and same with the leaf springs which have a lot of sag in them. I would like to keep things simple and use my original hubs, spindles and wheels which are in good shape.

You Can Have Mine, Just Come and Get it

I have the original axle sitting here taking up space. I converted mine to dual axles a couple of years ago. Not sure it is worth putting old stuff back on but your welcome to it.

Mike, go to this web site and give them a call. They will build you a galvanized axle just give them the dimensions. Also, They now carry leaf springs that are coated to protect them from corrosion. I am switching mine out this winter. I live within driving distance but Their shipping via ups is fairly reasonable. Either that or find a trailer dealer local to build you a new axle. Good luck.

How did you convert

Who did the conversion, and how did they do it? Would you post the details? My 1993 Single axle rig is fading fast...too much boat weight for too little trailer strength and I read somewhere on this site that Hunter realized this and switched to double axle trailers about this time.

single axle 98 240

The 26's and 260's have the double axle. The 240 (replaced the 235) still comes with the single axle trailer.

What Jonathan Said

The good folks a Champion Trailer sell a kit. I was living in Biloxi at the time so they were only an hour away. The toughest part was getting the welded on spring brackets off. I took mine to a local muffler place and they cut them off for me grinded off what was left over and everything else bolted on. I think there is a better description in the archives. Arturo, let me know the next time your out this way and you can take a look at it.

23.5 trailer

Welcome to the wacky world of the Hunter 23.5 trailer. I've had my boat nearly 10 years and the trailer has been a source of constant problems. I replaced the axle, brakes, etc... with components from Champion trailer and they have been excellent, but the thing is just under designed. It may be adequate for the bare boat with no motor or other stuff, but it quickly becomes overwhelmed by the usual stuff that accumulates in the real world. I'm amazed that the running gear on yours has lasted so long. My axle actually collapsed from internal rust after less than 4 years. I agree with everybody about Champion Trailer. They sell top quality products.
