I've just purchased a Hunter 22 and will be saiing it on a fresh water lake. The bottom has never been painted, but I want to keep it in a slip. Do I need to paint the bottom? If so, can you recommend a paint for this purpose?

Thanks!
John

Here's what I used it was one of the cheapest, but I figured it was better than nothing, I am in a Lake as well. I want to say it was around $100 for a gallon. I think a half gallon would have been enough for one coat...

Wether you need bottom paint is dependent on the lake. I would talk with others in your marina.

I'm on the upper Mississippi. We have Zebra and Razor mussels so a bottom paint is a must. I had a boat yard apply the paint, so I don't recall the type at this time. It's held up very well, so I'll check my paperwork for the brand.

as a former and top dealer for the 23, Dave hit it on the nailhead. Check with the locals and specifically a marine yard near year what works well. Do not be stupid and scrimp on a cheap paint but one that will work for your area. YOu will need two coats and a third around the water line. There are several ways to apply but make sure any repair work for example blisters is performed first.

I've always used Micron CSC and have no complaints. I like that it lasts multiple seasons even if the boat is stored dry half the year. But..... it ain't cheap.
