I just thought that I'd share a word for the wise for all you H22 owners out there. Over the winter I replaced both interior bulkheads in my 22 which, as you probably know, requires the removal of the chainplates to accomplish. When I pulled mine out I was astonished to find the chainplates were fatigued and stressed to the point that they were cracked laterally to within a 1/4" of being completely broken through. Needless to say that if a chainplate goes, your whole rig goes with it. The day I decided to replace one of the bulkheads I had actually wanted to go for a sail but a buddy of mine couldn't go and it would turned out it would have been the windiest day I would have ever had this boat out in and more than likely the one chainplate in particular would have snapped. They both got changed before I took the boat out again. BTW most machine shops can whip these out for you pretty quickly and they only cost me $60 for the 2 of them. All H22 are about the same age and I cannot stress it enough CHECK AND INSPECT THOSE CHAINPLATES.

Hunter 22 bulkhead and chainplates- 1981

I just finished today with replacing my bulkhead and rebedding the chainplates. My starboarad bulkhead water damaged at the the place where the chain plates attached and at the bottom where the water puddled in the grooves. My chainplates were fine though. If you need any help with the bulkheads, let me know. I called hunter and they told me how to reinstall the bulkheads. The starboard one was the real tough one. The port side was easy. I will put up some pics of the new bulkhead. While I was at it, I rebedded all my deck hardware including the windows or whatever they call them. I hope the H--- it doesn't leak now.

Bulkhed

I waiting on a new digital camera to arrive and as soon as I do I'll be posting many many pix. For my bulkheads I used marine plywood laminated with a plastic laminate from formica. It's usually a special order considering i used what they call "vertical grade" which is for use on walls and such which is basically the same thing as countertop laminate just thinner. They look really really awesome with a perfect high gloss, not to mention as durable as a countertop would be. I also used the same thing for the floorboards except I put a 1/4" maple strip every 3 inches. I really can gardly wait to get pix posted. Ya'll are gonna freak when you see it.
