Just finished the bilge pump installation on my 1981 Hunter 22. Pump is a Seachoice 1500 (1500 gph) with a check valve and a upper transom through hull discharge. Manual switch, and "StarBoard" replacement for old plywood hatch cover. One day project.

Gary, I will be looking at an H22 for my summer lake sailing. Where is that panel and bilge pump exactly? Is that the low point, all the water runs to that spot? Was there no bilge pump originally?

A freind at the sailing club moved up to a Tartan 30 and has his H22 for sale. I have very little time on the boat so all is new to me. It would be nice for an occasional overnight unlike my Highlander. And it was very competitive in our PHRF cruising class.

Ed - This location is aft of the companion-way steps below the sink. It is as close to the lowest point as you can get without rigging some piping to the low spots on either side of the centerboard well. The boat did not come with an electric pump when I purchased it.

Working on my '81, I needed to cut out / off the centerboard that the PO had kindly glassed to the hull. As my cut line was sorta wobbly, I sliced into the hull outside of the centerboard well. Probably just as well for the twenty or so gallons of water that drained out. I had pumped out the interior from the low spot (where your pump is mounted), and thought the interior dry. Anyone run across this before? BTW, this boat has been on the trailer for at least five years and the hatch hadn't been secured correctly, hence the water inside. Since I've had it and properly closed the hatch, I've seen only a trickle from the fwd hatch and the floor's been dry. My guess is somehow the water has gotten between the liner and the hull?
