Anyone got any info on the new 216 yet? How much are they going for?

Specification shown on Hunter's Web site

The new 216 specification has some interesting features. It states that there is some kind of hinged mast, if it is like Com-Pac's "Mastendr" rig, it will take less than 3 minutes to raise the mast without a gin pole arrangement to lift the mast. It also has some kind of hydraulic lifting mechanism to raise and lower the weighted cast lead centerboard. It also has a new type of rudder which appears to be located inboard and not on the stern of the boat. One of the options is a "Padded Rudder Bag", which I think is for a removable rudder that is inserted into an inboard rudder slot. There is no price listed on Hunter's web site for the 216. Sounds really cool!

You have to give Hunter a lot of credit. They use the lastest materials and designs. this boat sounds really nifty and high tech. It also sounds like it will be a screamer. Most other big boat manufacturers don't make any boats under 30 feet boat Hunter makes new and high tech designs every few years for all sized boats.

seen it and sailed it

There are two prototypes now makeing the show circuits. The boats are going into production April 1, 2003 and there is a limited number that will be built. Brochures are now available on the boat. The boat is basically a big daysailor that is stabe and fast. Many items have been addressed. Mast raising will be standard. It has a small cutty cabin for those to get ou t of the rain and store items. As for sailing, it points high and sails fast. Heeling again needs not to go over 15 degrees as it will go faster with less heel. The transom is not as open as the other boats so that has been addressed. I had the opportunity to sail the boat two weeks ago and enjoyed it. This one will be a winner and if you are leaning that way, maybe you should get your order in early. Crazy Dave Condon

Looks better then the photos

I too got to sail it twice at the dearers meeting in CT. The first day was very light air, and after we got moving, the boat handled very well, pointed very high and tacked well. The next time I was out on it the wind was high and gusting and the boat had 8 people on it. The boat showed us it was very stable. As for the price, HCT will come out with a introductory price that the other boat co. can't come close to. HCT is talking of having many options to fill the need of both the day sailor as well as the club racer. I think this boat will do that, it's a very exciting boat. Most of the dealers were at the meeting, so if anyone wants more info. or to order their boat, please contact your local dealer (use link to find your local dealer). Thank you, Dennis Mcleroy of http://www.sailing-obsession.com
