I was looking at PHRF ratings and found the 212 to be between 218 and 224. Is this true? If so how can this be? I've been looking for a beachable boat that I can club race, and this seems to good to be true! I'd like to hear from anyone with experience racing the 212. Thanks Joe M. jm13169@aol.com

Not familiar with the 212

I'm not familiar with the 212 but in case you are not familiar with the Portsmouth site, they handicap the 212 with a Portsmouth of 93 which translates to 228 PHRF using their formulas located at: http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/table_v.htm I have a 216 and am very pleased with it but as we don't have any other similar boats to race against, we are having a difficult time arriving at an acceptable PHRF to use with the other boats in the fleet. Just a suggestion, if you like to race, try to stay with a boat where there are other very similar ones that you'll be racing against. It's a lot less hassle when you beat them all the time. Don't overlook the 216; it is really is a great little boat for the money. It's fast and fun but still very stable and is also beachable. Good luck with your shopping.
