I'm very new to sailing and new to this group. I just recently purchased a hunter 212. Lovely boat. The prior owner son broke the center board cable hitting a sandbar. I've removed the screws from the cover in the cabin on the floor board thinking I can fix the problem there. Nope, can't do that. So I had a friend help me to jack the baby up and rest her on shipping crates high enough so that the center board will drop. It did have way. I can see a thin broken wire. I saw this wire with another broken twisted type wire under the plate in the cabin.

Now that I have the boat high enough for the center board to drop, and it isn't. What holding it in place in the housing, keeping it from dropping for complete. Under the deck where you sit, I saw a line that was neatly weaved through rope feeders (I don't know if this is the right name), but the line locked into a rope stay that mounted on the side of the same cover where I removed and replaced the two screws in the cover over the center board housing in the cabin.

I know this is confusing. Sorry. What I'm trying to say is. I need to know how to remove the centerboard, remove the cables, replace them.

Please help. If you have photos, please share them.

I will take pictures today and post them.

The keel rope on my 212 broke last week and I, too, have no experience fixing it. I got some good information from the hunter212 yahoo group, a group you should join. Here is the rope you need, it's 6mm and you need a minimum of 11 ft. I ordered 15 ft. to make sure I had enough even though 11 ft. seems like way too much. http://www.westmarine.com/1/1/1530-v-12-vectran-single-braid-6mm-dia-7500lb-breaking-strength-clear-from-new-england-ropes.html
I will be replacing mine next Friday and I will be taking lots of pictures of the process. I will attempt to replace mine with the boat on the trailer. The only part I haven't figured out is how to feed the line through a hole in the cabin that I can barely even see past the big nylon roller. Let me know if you figure that one out.

Thank so much answering my post. I was beginning to think......O well thank you for the info. I still can't get my center board to drop completely. I removed the bolts from cover in the cabin that suppose to be holding it into place and it didn't drop. There is plenty of room the boat for this to happen.

I hope I don't have to tap it down. Any Ideas?

Thanks for the cable information and the yahoo group. I will join.

It is my understanding that the two large bolts holding down the big yellow cover are actually connected to the plates that the keel pivot pin goes through. If so, removing them would totally drop the keel out of the boat. Are these the ones you removed? And your keel didn't fall out? I will know more in about a week. If you learn more by then please let me know.

Yes these are the two bolts. I didn't have the time to work on it this weekend. Maybe today. I think I have to raise the centerboard level and it should fall because have of it is resting on the ground. I think read that somewhere in here. As I raise it up with a rope and have someone holding it from the bottom of the boat as I lower it. It should come out. I have taken photos to post, somehow they will not attached.
