Hi

I want to clean this filter but the PO did not leave a filter wrench on the boat. Does anyone know where I can get one?

The housing is ribbed and is plastic and I don't want to use a pipe wrench on it.

most any chandlery or west marine style store usually carries them, or internet if that is your thing.

It should only be hand tight.

You could try a strap wrench, I find them useful as a universal fit wrench for loosening stuff that should be "hand tight" like various filters and strainer housings.

Channel lock pliers

If your raw water filter is the same as the one on my 2000 H340 (Sherwood 3/4") then you can GENTLY use a large channel-lock pliers around the tabbed portion of the filter housing to ease it off. It should only be put on hand tight. Note that in my photo, I have the direction for removal noted on the top of the filter housing since many of us are challenged when things are upside down

Confirm

Is it like the one in smoothsailing's photo and if so than just use channel locks but just go easy and I have 3 of them on my boat and as said just hand tight.

I know a local guy that makes a dedicated wrench for the filter. Absolutely bomb proof wrench. My boat has 2 filters next to each other that always lock up tighter by the end of the season raven she i just hand tighten them do to the cold. get back to me as I will look up the info for the site that i bought them from

pick up a strap wrench. they are only a few bucks, adjustable from a couple inches in diameter to a foot. I use them on filters, plastic housings over screens, the transducer. anything you want to exert rotational pressure on without putting a hard surface like a wrench on it.
