Hunter 19 Mast And Jib

I noted that my lever used in stepping up the mast will not lock into the mast and produce leverage
So I manually stepped up the mast by lifting from behind
this was fairly easy
How about when I take the mast down ? Any suggestions so I dont drop it

Also my jib's cloth loop where it attaches to the halyard is dry rotted I dont think I can sew into it
Can I make a hole in the sail thru the heavy plastic area and attach the halyard there
Do i need to get it professionally fixed

A fix the main halyard to a point on the bow, either a cleat or even the pulpit, and use it to gently lower the mast down, this will work well untill you are about 45 degrees then you need to take over by hand. As far as the sail repair I can not comment.

do you let the halyard out as it lowers and do you use the main or jib halyard thanks again

Either halyard will work but since the headsail line faces forward that is your best bet, yes slowly feed the halyard out to gently lower the mast

mainsheet to jib halyard

I use the mainsheet attatched to the jib halyard, I pop the camcleat after undoing the headstay pinmove to the cocpit let the mast fall back to where I can reach it and keep my balance, then let it come down using the friction in the mainsheet to adequately control the rate of decent. that leaves 2 hands to handle the mast. works well for me. ( to step the mast, I simply push it all the way up and then tighten the mainsheet and cleat untill the forstay in contected.) btw how is the helm or your boat, seems pretty unresponsive to me, maybe heavy is the word. Just wondered.
