I found a Hunter 140 for sale in very good condition. I'll like to hear comments from h140 owners about the boat's handling in open water and its durability. Is this a dependable daysailor at 12-18 knots of wind? Can you reef the main? I would appreciate any advice.

Open Water ????

What do you mean by "open water"? The H140 is an open daysailer only 14' and is at its best in Lakes, Bays and other protected waters. If you are thinking about the ocean maybe you should think bigger. The sail does reef nor have a topping lift so if you want to lower it the boom will come down in the boat. You could add a Boomkicker in leiu of a topping lift and then put in your own reef points and sail ties. Also there is no ballast except for your body so the possibility of the boat going over due to a gust of wind is very possible. I notice you are from Puerto Rico, if I remember correctly there are very large fish with big teeth that swim in those waters. Think bigger or you could move to New Jersey.
