Hunter 140 frame

A question about the Hunter 140 / JY14.

I have a JY14 built in 1997 and there is a wood board at the transom that the rudder gudgeon screws into. That wood has got wet an deteriorated. I plan to replace it, and I wonder if there might be other wood inside the hull that is defective.

Is there a wood frame inside the hull?

Are there engineering blueprints about the boat?

There is no wood frame in the hull just blocks of wood encapsulated in the transom.

First, post some pictures of the transom with rudder unattached of both sides

Secondly, go to upper right with three lines of this page and touch the three horizontal bars This will bring up a list of references. Go to boat information and then to hunter resources. Pick 140 and go to downloads. Look at ACP Repair and owners manual and read them. Then respond back with photos.

Make sure you make note for my attention. It has been twenty years since I repaired one with this issue as a former dealer

The boat is not here with me so I can't take pictures. I left it at a repair shop and it's waiting a while for the repair man to get to it. I asked those questions so I can help guide the repairman. Neither of us knows what's inside the hull.

I read the ACP document and the owners manual some time ago. I only do simple repairs myself.

What supports the wood board at the transom? If there is no wood frame, does this wood board get support from the plastic body of the boat? Is the board epoxied to the plastic body?

Thanks very much for your advice!

@areyhead

Without pictures as requested , I am having a hard time trying to advise you on what to do. In addition I need to know how wide is the transom.

There are two folks I plan to ask but will hold until I see some photos

Here are the photos. The width of the transom of the boat is 46 inches measured from side to side of the boat. I don't know the width of the wood board hidden in there, but it's probably a lot less, maybe 16 inches. The photo of the front of the transom shows no defect there.

I can tell that the wood board was attached to the inside plastic body with adhesive, probably epoxy.

Apparently the wood board is supported solely by being epoxied to the plastic body at the transom. I'm surprised that worked a long time because the plastic is real thin there.

We don't need more advice at this time. Thanks for answering my question about whether or not there is a wood frame! That's all we needed to know.

I had been waiting for responses from two key people but now I will not proceed any further only if you knew who I left messages for
