My wife and I are new sailors. We took the Catt22 out on Sunday for our first sail. I noticed that as we got up to a certain speed I would hear a humming noise coming from below. I thought it might possibly be the cable connected to our swing keel. I had the keel, cable, and bolts checked when the bottom job was done in January. Everything checked out okay. Can anyone offer me some insight? I also asked earkier about the icebox in the galley. Does anyone use them? Are they worth using? How do you empty them after the ice melts? Thanks for everyones help. Robert

cable hum

a common question for the 22. simply adjust the crank a lttle and the noise goes away. I usually just release the tension on the cable slightly with a few turns of the crank. you can tell when your keel has full extension if you get a feel for the crank. good sailing.

Cable Hum

The Hum that you hear is the swing keel cable vibrating in the water. I have experienced this on my Cat 22 #81 for years(30)in the San Francisco Bay. I to have seen no problem with the Keel mountings or cable connections. Good sailing AL
