Our 1999 Hunter 340 just diagnosed with about 70 small hull blisters on aft part of hull. Bet it will be an expensive repair. We are also thinking about moving up to a 38 ... opinions if Catalina has same blister issue as Hunter apparently still does? Or are all mass production sailboats that are "reasonably" priced for coastal sailing about the same with regards to this issue. Opinions? Thanks

Blisters

Had a 1995 Hunter 35.5 for ten years. Only had one real blister on it. About a 2 inch diameter blister. It was covered under the warrenty. Had a dozen or more dime size blister on the keel each time we pulled it for a bottom job. No big deal, the marina popped them and filled them as they did the bottom job.

Blisters are not

much to worry about. There has never been a boat sunk by blisters. Are they ugly? yes can they be repaired, you bet. Do people make a big thing out of them? They sure do. Any boat can get blisters, Two boats off the assembly line one right behind the other, one might get blisters the other not. I am not an advocate of Hunter, that said get what you want. Now get out there and sail and worry about something important. Fair Winds Cap'n Dave

3 hunters no blisters

We have had 3 Hunters: 1978 Cherubini 25, 1985 Hunter 31 & 1994 Hunter Vision 36. Have not seen a single blister. Blisters has little to do with the problem of blisters. Go to a local boat yard and you can find just about any brand of boat (sail/power) that are having blisters removed. The best bet is to open the up, flush with water, dry and patch them. Epoxy barrier coat the area and paint the bottom. You may have them again, and then again you may not!
