Am considering painting my boats topsides. I was wondering if anyone has done this with either Sterling or Interlux Perfection, Awlgrip or any other 2-part poly. I am looking for any hints you can provide, together with how much material you used (primer, patching, paint, rollers, brushes, thinner, etc.) I will roll and tip, not spray.

I did it to my cherubini 27 using the West marine

anti skid paint. I sanded the areas with a vibrating palm sander/ 100 grit paper, and then washed the deck area really well with toilet bowl cleaner. I masked the areas using blue painter's tape and simply rolled on the West topside anti skid paint. It looks great, non-slippery. It seems to hold up well for about 3 seasons...then clean and just roll on another coat.

Once

with the (old) Interlux 2 part epoxy. Used a foam roller and tipped it out with a brush per instructions , it came out real good, but next time i am going to find a guy to spray - The product & prep is so expensive you might as well do it the best it can be done.

No one allowed to spray

The only people doing spraying are the 2 yards that have indoor spray booths... requires unstepping/restepping the mast, and paying them to do the prep.

Question for Ed

That sounds like a great bargain. Exactly what did the "refinish" entail? Sanders

Awlgrip on H37C

The prep work makes the end result. Complete and thorough sanding and filling bad spots; 3 coats of primer and 3 coats of awlgrip. We used awlgrip's non-skid product, which was sprayed on. Have seen others begin with the Interlux product, only to imediately apply awlgrip--the awlgrip finish seems to be tops.I can detail more off-forum. baydivepro@aol.com

sterling looks great on my friends 30

A friend used sterling to do her hunter 30. She did it in the slip, used manufactures instructions and rolled and tipped it. she has sold the boat but i was impressed enough to concider doing my 37c over here in tampa soon.

Hey Sanders.

You still hanging around out there? I wish I had watched the work. I failed to mention that it took most of the summer for the new gelcoat patches to blend in colorwise. But besides the patching and new gelcoat over the patches I think it was a lot of wet sanding. And then a lot of polishing and buffing.
