Hull to House Joint

Greetings Maine, I have been a loyal follower for years and have gratefully used your butyl tape on numerous projects. We recently crossed to the dark side and purchased a Kadey Krogen Manatee. We still have our sailboat so I feel I can legitimately post this question. There is a leak along the house joint and cap rail...somewhere. The joint is about twenty feet long. I have rebed the stanchions above and know that is not the leak source. Other Manatees have had or have the same problem but no one seems to have a solution. Some advise the Devils 5200, others Lifecaulk, silicone etc. I actually wondered about running butyl tape along the joint but likely not a good idea due to its duel sided stickiness. Can you suggest something that can be applied , even if it needs reapplication periodically?

Here is a photo before it snowed today, we are wintering in Ego Alley, Annapolis, now under 6 new inches of snow. The leak is at cap rail which is about six up to eight inches in width. The water seems to run under the cap rail and then leaks to inside.

I have a wide teak toe rail and found one spot, under the SS rubstrake where there was a gap. Stuffed it with butyl to seal it. Some of the butyl showed below the SS rubstrake so I tinted it with wood stain. So far so good.

I like that for the out of sight areas, didn't know the butyl tape would take a stain. My problem is the top joint between the house and caprail. The caprail is varnished and really calls for a bead of caulk most likely, just not sure which type. I was hoping there was a butyl tape that was about 1/4 inch or so wide and was sticky only on one side. My thinking is the joint is likely flexible to some degree and so calls for a flexible seal. Maybe I'm wrong, perhaps 5200 is the way but I doubt it.

This is more likely a job for a sealant. Getting it to seal however will be the challenge. Short of removing the cap rail, and re-doing it, I'm afraid everything else is going to be a short term band-aid.. Try Sikaflex 295UV..
