I would not screw into any hull.
Gary: I do not think that screwing down a battery hold down into ANY hull is a prudent idea. I would suggest that you glass in a couple of pieces of wood to the hull (making it as level as possible). Then you can epoxy coat or varnish a piece of plywood of sufficent thickness to hold a battery. This can then be screwed and/or glassed to the supports. Then you can mount your battery hold down to it.

Glassing a block to the hull should work but I've done the same thing using M5200. The block is there forever!

The layup on the sides is a little less than 1/4 inch, increasing to the bottom around the keel at a little less than one inch on our '77 model. But there are reports of significant variations in manufacturing through the early 80's. Anyway, the advice to glue down a level wood block is the right way to go. By the way, our boat has a glassed in shelf under the forward end of the quarterberth. David Lady Lillie
