HULL SCRATCH

When I brought my 170 up on the trailer (after adjusting the rear slides on the trailer) I got two scratches about a foot long on the bottom of the boat from the trailer frame. The scratches didn't go through the outer plastic. My question is... I would like to fix the scratches while the boat is in the water by pulling the boat over and resting the mast on the dock to expose the bottom. Do you have any suggestions as to what product to use to repair the scratches... and do you know if it will set in a reasonable amount of time (2 or 3 hours before uprighting the boat). Also does it need sanding after it's cured?

Repair work.......

I attached a link to "A Sailing Obsession" and there is a really good artical on how to make repairs to the hulls which the 170 and 216 are made of (ACP?)

You will have to go through that site to find the post on the repair by Dennis.

Dennis did a remarable job on his boat and mine too when I had deep sratches to fix.

As to making the reairs while the boat is in the water, I guess it could be done providing you could leave the boat there for a while.

There is a lot of good information on his site, take your time and enjoy reading some of them, Im sure you will find the site worth while.

Good luck,

Glenn B.

Scratches

Didn't fix scratches yet. I am taking the boat out of the water this weekend and will fix it on the trailer. I will be using a Devcon product called Plastic Welder. Web site www.itwconsumer.com Will post results in a week or so. Product only comes in cream, not white, so don't use above water line!!!

Painting !

I found that you can come pretty close to matching the paint by using Kryon paint.

paint

Krylon 2320 fusion matches nicely and than after dry wet sand with 1500 sandpaper and you will never see the repair. Of course you need to sand the devcon smooth before painting. not real easy.

Krylon paint

After using 1500 paper, can the area be polished to bring back the shine?----Phil
