And wet sanding your hull to remove oxidization is not wrong. You just gotta go 600, 1200, 2000 to get it really polished. Then compound and wax. Also, you could just put acrylic coating on it after sanding, and it will look glossy and new.

Burr Brothers in Marion, MA, have recently built a new metal shed, with radiant heat, concrete floor, and inside that they have built a positive pressure, environmentally controlled spray booth that will take a huge yacht. But, I would guess painting the topsides of a 34' boat would get you above $10k.

It's all about available facilities, time, money, and the inevitable tradeoffs.
Thank you for your input. I have not checked the cost here but have to assume that 10K+ is about right. Considering I paid 1,500 for her 7 yrs. ago and have invested approx. 5K+ over the years. That amount to spend on paint is out of the question.
You are correct about this forum, I have asked several questions over the years and have gotten valuable info on each of them.

That number I quoted for Burr Bros. is a guess, and was an example of a full-service, high-end yacht yard. I've been told I could get my boat, a 38, repainted for around $8k, and this would be sprayed.

That was my exact process. The oxidation was so bad when I purchased the boat that I didn't realize the hull was light blue. The boat was mfg. in 1969, that is 48 years old, and she sat in the yard for over 7 yrs. So I was pretty happy with the original results. You can see the difference in my album pictures.

Then you did it right. Gel coat is pretty hardy, but I guess it was time to move on! You will love the epoxy paint! Glossy! Easy to fix scratches. My boat was a bear to paint because the folding mechanisms are intricate. A monohull will be easy and fast. You could do it outside in an afternoon.

Rolling and tipping: I personally know a guy who ran painting operations at Little Harbor, and painted some incredible yachts, including many multi-million dollar yachts. He says one can get good results tipping and rolling, and people do. It's all about time and money and available facilities.
This hull was rolled and tipped in my harbor this week(outside). One part enamel on a wooden boat.
