On another note, I could see psychedelic art on a sailboat hull using some nautical and/or landscape themes.

Your only concerns should be the paint compatibility and possible resale. It would be pretty easy to paint over anything you did so resale isn't even a huge factor.

I say go for it! You will be that quirky boat that everybody remembers. Lots of people will want to talk to you about your boat. Some might even be horrified. The whole point of sailing is to have fun. I have a feeling you are going to have a whole lot of fun if you decide to do something wild.

Just don't go half way, Steve.

who puts those two words together...???? That is awesome....

:theman:

I may have just found the name of my next boat

Obiciendum Infensi

Or maybe just go with Obiciendum ;)
I've thought of some pretty clever names for my boat but they will never end up on the hull becasue I can just just see the problems coming...

" Coast Gaurd, Coast Gaurd this Sailing Vessel Obiciendum, Over"
" This is Coast Gaurd Station X-ray, repeat your last, Over"
" Roger Coast Gaurd, this is Sailing Vessel Obiciendum, Over"
" This is Coast Gaurd, request you spell vessel name, Over"
" Roger Coast Gaurd, I spell, Oscar, Bravo, India?.... Ah Sh!t...."

My vote is for what makes you happy with your boat at the time. Almost possible to guess what the next owner might want so make yourself happy. It's your boat so have fun!

I know, and I wasn't using that Latin name as an example of what not to do... it was just the example at hand. Actually, I think its a cool name, I was just pointing out that the more creative and classy names I have seen or even a few I have come up with myself just end up crossed off the list because they are too difficult to spell, which is totally ironic.

I love the wildly decorated hulls! It's fun and adds personality to the marina and sailing area. I can't help you with the paint compatibility, but here are a couple of considerations on wild paint jobs per se.

:) A limited boat budget is better spent on actual sailing hardware, so make sure your rig is solid before you paint.

:) Your boat will be distinctive and attention grabbing; people will be watching you. That may be good or bad, depending on your personality and your propensity for embarassing blunders and slightly illegal activities.

This is why my hull is plain white. Best not to draw attention.

Not that I have anything to hide, Steve.

I'm with the do what pleases you crowd.
Every boat pictured in this thread are all beautiful I think.

During calms this summer past the Admiral floated alongside or hung over the rail for many hours drawing gun ports on our hull with black chalk. :)

Hurts no one and makes me smile.
