Hi folks Im trying to read my hull number and I have a question...It is STRSD56A787. Would this mean it is number 56 and built in 87? If its #56 doesnt that sound like a low number for an 87? By the way its an Oday 222 Eric Pa

Not Oday

Eric: that is not a hull id number from an Oday. The first three letters of a hull id are a manufacturer's code. STR is the code for Starcraft Marine. It looks like your boat was built in January of 1987 (model year 1987). The serial number assigned to it by Starcraft was "SD56". Maybe Starcraft built some Oday boats under a license agreement. They're still in business, maybe you can ask them.

Lear-Siegler also owned Starcraft.......

....as well as O'day, Cal, Ranger, Prindle Catamarans and more. Since the SUR prefix on my 192 indicates that the boat was built by Performance Catamarans (Prindle?) perhaps there was also a set of 222 molds at a Starcraft Plant.

Here's a cryptic little note......

.....from the Coast Guard HIN site: SEE 'XDY' 'RAY' 'CAB' ***PRINDLE SAILBOATS*** PRINDLE CATS MANUFACTURED AT THIS PLANT'STR' CONSOLIDATED MIC USED 10/86 TO 07/87ACTIVATED 'SUR' WHEN LEAR SIEGLER CO SOLD SAILBOAT OPERATION Looks like "STR" could indicate manufacture in Santa Ana, the same as "SUR" does.

STR is on my O'day

I have a 272 that was built in 86 and registered in 87 having a STRSE prefix and Lear Siegler marine on the information I understand LS was owned by Starcraft at the time post Punta ownership. happy winds Buff
