Hull numbers on old Morgans

Morgan M22 Cocoa, FL
I have been slogging my way through the red tape of government trying to get a little Morgan 22 titled and registered in Florida. My first effort was a bust because the FL reg numbers that were on the boat were bogus. A visit from fish and game got me nowhere. While grinding I , found a SECOND set of FL reg numbers. These, in fact, crossed to a Morgan sailboat at DMV. I was informed it is a 1969 M22. Fish and game says they recommend a "conditional" title. Since this boat was gifted to me over ten years ago and it is most definitely Pre-HIN, I'm at a loss. The paperwork that F&G forwarded to DMV has kicked back again.

BUT>>>>>

They had a bit of information on that letter that I did not have before.
They listed the hull number as M22168.

My question for the Morgan history folks is, is this hull #168 or hull #1 from 1968?

Anyone have history on m22168?

FYI, I've not given up my paper chase yet. DMV has asked I follow procedures TL-07...onward into the abyss.

Hey Cocoa,
You might be able to find (to verify) the HIN written in permanent marker inside (I think) starboard cockpit locker and/or the anchor locker.
As for deciphering the number, I suggest contacting Bob Horan at http://morgan24site.com.istemp.com/
he knows a lot about these old Morgan's and you might find what you're looking for on his website.

I have a 1977 Morgan. The HIn # is on the stern stbd at the top corner. Inside the cockpit locker on the port side the hull # is marked on the back of the seat coming. Bob

Hin numbers were not required in the US before November 1, 1972.

He said it was a 1969 boat. Boats built prior to 1972 did not have HIN numbers. And then in 1984, the set up of the numbers was changed. Used to issue them.

Bummer.
Looks as if some person before me got in the hull with a roller and latex paint. It's flaking off slowly if I hit it with the house nozzle. Search continues.
