Hull number

I have finally sold my Albin Vega “Owyhee”. It was rather a sad day yesterday to see her being driven away on her trailer by her new owners but, as I had indicated in an earlier post, this was necessary due to my advancing age with related medical issues. She will at least now be going back into the water in the not too far distant future to help her new owners fulfill their dreams. However, I do have a problem. The new owner wishes to register the boat with the state but needs the hull number to do so. (Originally she had been registered with the Coast Guard when I had purchased her.) Would somebody be so kind as to please let me know where on the boat this number is located. Many thanks and smooth sailing,Peter

Hello Peter,

The hull number is on a plate that is mounted on the vertical forward surface of the cockpit well.

Thank you John - problem now solved. The new owner will no doubt be joining the group as he works to complete repairs/renovations.PeterOn Mar 3, 2014, at 2:23 PM, John G Brisson brisson@... wrote:

Peter:
The four digit hull number is on a small aluminum (?) plaque on the forward end to the cockpit. What I believe you really want though is the HIN, hull identification number, which includes the month of molding, the hull number, the molder (Albin Marin), and maybe more. Starting in (I think) '72 or '73 it is on the top of the transom towards starboard. Mine are IIRC ~1/2 inch high. In my case the HID is AMN025050175. AMN is Albin Marin, my hull number is 2505, and it was molded in January '75. (A few years later the coding scheme changed and for newer boats you'll need a new secret decoder ring.) Since your boat was previously documented (registered with the Coast Guard) at the time is was supposed to have had 3 inch high HIN markings in the cabin (somewhere) that will appear defaced if removed. Since the boat is no longer documented it might have been removed.

The HIN number is what the state will need. It is the equivalent to the automobile VIN number. If the vessel has been documented with the Coast Guard the documentation number is not the same as the HIN. It is a US registered vessel and the number is usually affixed to a bulkhead permanently.Sent from my iPhoneKeenandoBoulder, CO
