Could be hull number vs serial number. Or perhaps a uscg documentation number?

I guess you should go with what the title states is the number.

That's what I've been doing, I'm just curious as why there is such a large discrepancy (over 200) between the factory embossed number on the outer transom and the factory number plate in the cockpit.

Does the title jive with the engraved number on the hull? Those plates are easy to remove. Mine is in our nav station at the moment as I removed it to paint. I wonder if Catalina would make you a new one that is correct.
